This week we have been learning about bridges and examining bridges around the world. We noticed that the strongest bridges are made of steel and have a triangle shape in it's structure. We then made bridges using only 5 sheets of paper and sellotape. We tested their strength by counting how many coins we could place on top before the bridge collapsed!

Today we finished our second Roald Dahl book "The Enormous Crocodile." We loved it despite having mixed opinions about the ending. Some of us thought the ending was hilarious, others felt a bit sorry for the poor croc! What book will we read next? If you have any suggestions leave them in the comments :)
Today we read a fantastic book called "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Oliver Jeffers. During the week we will be writing persuasive letters as the crayons in the story. If you would like to write your own persuasive letter take a look at the story below called "Clcik Click Moo." Pretend to be another farm animal and write a letter to the farmer asking for something and tell him why you should get it! We had so much fun going to the 2016 Global Action Plan competition presentation. We are so happy we were involved in this project last year. Thank you Ms Cronin for teaching us all about bees. We're going to continue protecting them this year!
Bzz Bzz Busy Bee! Last year, before I knew this lovely class, I recorded them performing their Busy Bee dance. Who knew we would be watching it together this year :)
The Bee Project from OLVInfants on Vimeo. We have been learning lots of fun facts about Halloween. Did you know that Halloween is celebrated half way between Summer and Winter. Long ago people believed it was half way between life and death. The dead would come back to life for one night. The Celtic people wore masks to trick the zombies. We also discovered how trick or treating started! The Celts left food at their door to stop the zombies from coming in. After a while children began taking the food and knocking on the door to ask for more yummy treats! Sometimes the children even performed a song, a dance, a poem or a trick to get something nice. Trick or Treat! :) |
