We were exploring the theme of autumn this month. We collected leaves from the school and local environment. The children used these leaves to print with autumn colours. We cut out the leaves and created an autumn tree.
Today we had a visit from a witch! She came to teach us how to make special potions.
First we add the powdered lizard!!! (baking soda)
Then we add some multi-coloured blood....creepy!!! (food colouring)
We then say our magic words and add the last secret ingredient! (vinegar) Watch what happens below!

We are exploring different colours and what they look like against a dark background, and it was lots of fun. Have a look at the firework displays below. The fireworks displays were really simple to make all you need is black paper, coloured paint and match sticks to spread the paint out. If you like you can add a bit of glitter at the end for a bit of extra sparkle. In our Aistear play sessions the children have been creating their own small world. They took turns in groups to paint the box and create items like trees that will go in it. Take a look at the process below. Now that the small world is created they can start playing in it. They really enjoy playing with something that they created themselves.
This month we will be exploring the theme of Autumn. To begin exploring our theme we went on an Autumn walk around the grounds of the school. We discussed the different colours that we could see and collected leaves to bring back to the classroom. The children had so much fun. We looked at the bird houses and the the bird feeders that are hung in different trees around the school grounds. We visited the insect hotel where you can see lots of different creepy crawlies. We looked at the sunflower heads that have been hung on the trees. When sunflowers have died the heads can be turned into a natural bird feeder.
We have been learning the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. During an art lesson a couple of weeks ago the children created stars from different materials which you can see in the picture above. The children are able to recite the poem with special actions, please take a look in the video below. I hope you enjoy. Ms Mc Sweeney Welcome to junior infants room 1!! All of the children are settling into the new routine well. They are making lots of new friends and exploring a new environment. For the month of September we were exploring the theme of home and the family. At the end of every day the children get the opportunity to use all of the new vocabulary that they have learned in our play area. This integrated learning through play method (Aistear) is great fun and the children look forward to it everyday. Check back again soon for the next update.
