Handwriting

Good morning boys and girls! Today we are going to start with some handwriting. Our new letter is 'p'.

Take out the following:
  • whiteboard
  • whiteboard pen
  • p worksheet
  • pencil
Now have a go of your rainbow letter! How colourful can you make it?
- Can you remember the word from yesterday for rainbow as Gaeilge? (tuar ceatha!)

You can practice your p on your whiteboard, on the practice sheets and in your grey homework handwriting copy. These don't all have to be done today. You could pick one each day to have a go of so that your child doesn't get too tired and they get to practice the new letter on different days.

Tricky Words

We are starting with our blue tricky words. These words are trying to trick us and don't follow the rules of our phonics so we say the names of the letters rather than the sounds.
We are looking at the first four tricky words today:
  • I
  • the
  • he
  • she
Take a look at one of the red readers in your child's homework folder. The tricky words will be on either the inside cover or the back cover. When you are doing your reading this is a great opportunity to have a little practice as well.

Readers

Can you help me read this book? You might have this one at home or you might have a different one.

Dictation

We are going to do something called dictation. I am going to call out 4 words and I want you to write down what you hear. This is an activity to do by yourself without any help from any adults. Just try your best and write down the sounds that you hear, don't worry about making mistakes.

Make the following on a sheet of paper or the whiteboard.

Counting

How good are your listening ears? I'm going to drop some coins in the tin can you close your eyes and count each drop? Let's give it a go.

Combinations of 5

You will need to make the following sheet on a blank piece of paper. You will also need: whiteboard, pen and some type of counters or toys (5 of them).

We are going to find all the ways to make the number 5 and then write our number sentences.

Number Formation Practice

Take out your number 4 worksheet and give it a go. Don't forget to keep practicing numbers 1-3 as well. :)

Gaeilge - Eadai

We are going to look at some new words. Have a little look at the video below and repeat the words:
  • geansaí
  • léine
  • bróga
  • hata
  • bríste
  • stocaí
  • cóta
  • gúna
They don't need to be able to read the words I just thought I'd put them up for any parents watching.
