We really enjoyed the maths activities that Miss Thomas created for us. They helped us enhance our maths skills and maths language. We are doing lots of work on counting both in class and for homework. Keep practising counting with your child at home starting and stopping at different numbers as directed on the homework sheet. Most Fridays we will be having a counting quiz as a fun way of showing off the great counting we have done over the week.
Room 11 have made a great start to first class. They are working so hard and are looking forward to Halloween. They have really enjoyed learning a poem called 'Haunted House' and even made their very own haunted houses. They are counting down the days until the Halloween parade in the hall.
After our St. Patrick's day celebration in the hall we got to go on a special trip to the Botanic Gardens. It was great fun going on the double decker bus!
We went on a nature walk around the gardens and looked for signs of spring. There were lots of spring flowers like daffodils, snowdrops, crocuses and we also noticed the buds sprouting on the trees. We were lucky enough to see a squirrel. He scurried past us as we were walking. We think he was looking for some food! When we returned to our classroom we drew some pictures of the things we saw on our trip.
Well done to all the boys and girls in room two for their excellent listening on the trip. I hope everyone has a great bank holiday weekend!
This week in school we have been learning about St. Patrick. We discussed his life and how he used the shamrock to teach people about god. We had a great day in school celebrating our patron saint. We got to go to the hall for a special celebration and we performed two songs for the rest of the school. We all looked fantastic in our green head pieces.
We read "The Smartest Giant in Town" by Julia Donaldson with Ms. Mc Ginn. This story linked in well with our theme of clothes. We talked lots about kindness and being helpful just like George the giant.
We had great fun getting into role and acting out the story using character masks. Check out our pictures below.
We were very lucky to have Ms. Mc Ginn in our class for the month of January. She did lots of lovely lessons with us and we learned so much. Our topic for the month was clothes and we even had our own siopa éadaí in the classroom. Thank you Miss Mc Ginn!
The children are really enjoying playing in Santa's workshop. They have been busy making lots of toys and getting Santa prepared for Christmas.
We are extremely busy getting ready for Christmas in room two. We are practising very hard for our Christmas concert and we can't wait for all our grown ups to see us on stage on Friday.
Last week a very special visitor arrived to our classroom all the way from the North Pole. He left us a note telling us that he is a funny elf called Tiddly Winks. Since then he has been playing lots of tricks on us and hiding around the classroom.
