Hi everybody, don't forget you could be in with a chance of wining a prize this week by simply leaving a comment on any of the blog posts from this week!
Also, tomorrow was meant to be a big day in our school, so I am going to be posting just a little work for you to do before lots of FUN! So if you're interested, tune in tomorrow to see what and why!
Maths:
  1. Forward backward counting 1-10/20 and 10-1 jumping, skipping, jumping jacks, strides, squats, marching up the stairs etc.
  2. Length: Write the answers to the following questions in your copy/page (see example) numbered 1-6.
  • Can you find something longer than a scarf?
  • Can you find something shorter than your bath tub?
  • Which do you think is longer, a spoon or the slide in our playground in OLV?
  • Which do you think is shorter, your arm or your television? Go check!
  • Find what is longer, your leg or your arm. Measure first and then write your answer.
  • Find what is shorter, your big toe or your baby finger. Check first and then write your answer.
3. Measuring - we will introduce the skill of measuring objects using non-standard units (crayons, pencils, lego, spoons etc. versus metres and centimenters, these are standard units.). See how I measured some things in my house below, and then try some yourself!

I’m using crayons to measure. Explain that we must start by putting the crayon at the very beginning of the object so as to make it fair, and also make the crayons touch too. This was just a little bit over the length of 5 crayons. You may round up or down, and if you think your child has an understanding of the word 'half' you could also introduce this.

The carpet on the step is exactly 4! Excuse me while I go find the hoover...

Can you count how many crayons long is my fire place?

This side of the coffee table is 4, I think my step was also 4. What does this mean?

English:
  1. Practice your reader online, sounds, word lists, tricky words etc.
  2. Handwriting (see below)
  3. Practice writing your name in cursive (I've uploaded the names again below)
  4. Writing Workshop: This week we will focus on setting. This means we will write about places- the beach, your house, the swimming pool, at the park etc.
  • Mini Lesson with teacher (see video below)
  • Independent writing (remember you can think of your own ideas here, you don't need to pick the same setting and words as me)
  • Shared Session with your family - tell them about your picture/writing.
