Aistear - Learning Through Play

Early childhood is a time of great opportunity for learning and development. In Aistear your children will learn through loving, trusting and respectful relationships, and through discussion, exploration and play. They will learn about languages and how and when to use them; they will learn to think and to interact with others and the environment. They will learn to be creative and adventurous, to develop working theories about their world, and to make decisions about themselves as learners. Aistear celebrates early childhood as a time of being, and of enjoying and learning from experiences as they unfold.

This month the topic is "Myself and My Family". My aim is that your children will be learning about themselves and their families in all subjects as much as possible. During Aistear time, whichever area your child decides to play in, there will be a focus on using language in relation to the topic of the month. This month, they could be talking about their body parts in the doctors surgery. They might making a house, school or village in the construction area. They may be talking about the people in the family in the dolls house. They could also read a book in relation to the topic or make people with play dough discussing how the head is round, the arms are long etc. The list is endless! Have a look below at some of what we did in Aistear this week.
