Because the period of secular instruction for children in infant classes may be shorter than that provided for older children, the suggested time framework is not directly applicable, as it is for other class groups. The child at infant level perceives and experiences learning in an integrated way. This requires particular approaches to teaching and learning and will entail a more flexible use of the suggested time frame.

Aistear should be seen as a methodology. It should be use to cover your curriculum objectives for the week/month. You can link you Aistear play to your topics by adding accessories/resources to match a theme or curriculum objective. Children should have the opportunity to choose for themselves how they play and interact with aistear areas. They should always have the choice to run with a topic but should be allowed to do something else entirely.
Below you will find various links to sites that offer support, resources, ideas and explain aistear and how to implement it in the classroom. Please feel free to add a link to any site you found helpful.
