Riddle
I'm used at night,
Made up all day,
I have four legs
But cannot play;
I'm made with sheets
And pillows too,
On me you sleep
The whole night through.
What am I?
Poem:
Cats Sleep Anywhere
Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don't care! Cats sleep anywhere.
by Eleanor Farjeon
Puzzles
We put washing powder in it,
We wash clothes in it.
What is it?
We fill it with water.
We sit in the water,
You wash yourself in it,
What is it?
You find it in the kitchen,
It keeps the food cold.
You will find milk and yogurt in it,
What is it?
Spot the mistake!
You comb your hair with a mop.
Mammy cooked the pizza in the washing machine.
You put rubbish in the microwave.
You sweep the floor with a toothbrush.

Wild Animal Riddles
- I am thinking of an animal who eats leaves from tall trees. It has a very long neck. What is it?
- I am thinking of a very big animal that has a trunk. It uses its trunk to eat and wash itself. What is it?
- I am thinking of an animal with a long tail. It climbs trees and eats banana's. What is it?
- I am thinking of an animal with humps on its back. It lives in the desert and can go for a long time without water. What is it?
- I am thinking of an animal that hops. She keeps her baby in a pouch in her tummy. What is it?
- I am thinking of an animal that looks like a horse and has stripes. What is it?
This is our poem for this topic. Can you say it and do the actions?
An Elephant Walks
An Elephant walks like this and that;
He's terribly tall and he's terribly fat.
He's got no fingers,
He's got no toes,
But goodness gracious,
What a nose!
Springtime is a great time to spot minibeasts.
Have you ever seen any of these?
Keep an eye out for them when you are outside.
The Zoo
Let's go on a virtual tour of Dublin Zoo and see what animals we meet!

Homework Folder
Dear parents,
Homework Sheet: Today you will find a homework folder in your child’s school bag. Please keep it safe in their school bag and bring it to school each day. Every week your child will receive a new homework sheet. The focus of the homework sheet is to encourage oral language, discussion and communication at home during family time. The homework sheet should be completed over the week when you and your child have a few minutes to sit and talk without too many distractions. Homework should take no more than 10-15 minutes a day. We suggest that you break the activities up over the week and return the homework for correction on a Friday.
Phonics: We are also starting our phonics program today. Each day your child will learn a new sound and symbol (we do not teach letter names or written formation of letters at this stage, doing so can lead to confusion and make learning to read and write more difficult for your child). In their folder you will find a Sound Notebook and parents are encouraged to look at the new focus letter each day and discuss words that begin with that sound. It would be very valuable to your child’s learning if you could occasionally ‘spot’ the letter sound in their bedtime story. Visit the parents’ area on www.olvinfants.com for more information on the Jolly Phonics program. We recommend that you download the free Jolly Phonics App for your phone to help both children and parents with the correct letter annunciation.
Kind Regards,
