We are currently working towards our 6th Flag – Global Citizenship; litter and waste. This theme encourages schools to discover how work on Green-Schools has positively influenced our global community.

Litter Survey
We completed a litter survey. We found a number of black spots. we aim to keep an eye on these areas and arrange clean up through out the year.
Global Goals
Miss Bergin's class taught us about the importance of fair trade. we learnt that it is better for everyone is we are all treated fairly.

Yard Clean up
We recently held a yard clean-up day with room 11 and 12 as part of climate change action week. The children and teachers did a fantastic job and we gather 3 large bags of litter and leaves.
Shared Reading Project
All first class children learnt about recycling and being global during our shared reading sessions. It prompted lots of questions and discussion among the children.
Our Green Code for Global Citizenship Litter and Waste
The First class students developed this beautiful code. They engaged in a brain storming session and developed a mindmap of words and phrases that came to mind when we talk of global citizenship. We used these ideas to develop the slogan which we felt reflected the essence of the theme.
First Class Global Citizenship Project
The first class children undertook a fantastic project desiging posters to represent their understanding of global citizenship and our green code. They came up with some fantsic ideas. Well done to all the children.

Battery Recycling
We have linked up with WEEE Ireland to create a battery collection point in our school. There will collection box located in Gwen's office and beside Ms Thomas' room in the new building. we would encourage you to send in any old batteries for recycling.

Bull Island Workshop
The first classes had a great workshop today with Mairead Stack from Heritage Ireland. She taught them all about the wonderful and interesting flora and fauna that can be found on Bull Island. We also discovered some interesting fact about the sea life around the island. The children had a chance to touch and smell seaweed and shells that can be found on the island.
