We have been learning about bright and dark colours. What better way to experience colour than learning about fireworks!
We've been working on some Halloween words!

No Halloween costume would be complete without your very own magic wand!

We learnt a fun song for the Halloween parade today. It's called 'The Witch Rides'. We've been practicing it all week.

Well done to all the boys and girls today. They looked absolutely amazing. We've been dressing up all week in school and today was just sooo much fun. And thank you to the moms and dads too for getting them ready this morning. It was a really special day and the parade in the hall was great fun.

Happy Halloween Everyone!!! Hope you have a great break and stay safe boys and girls.

This week everything has turned super spooky in Rm 5! As Halloween draws nearer we have been practicing our magic potions and of course dropping into the witch's costume shop to make a few purchases!

Below is a snap shot of some of our morning work stations.

This week we made Fireworks Play-doh! It was sooo much fun and super easy to make! Maybe you could try making it at home, it's cheap and easy and lasts for ages!

And the magic ingredients... Colour and sparkle!!!

Add about 1.5 cups of boiling water and mix...
It will start really sticky but as you knead it with your hands, it will cool and come together in a nice soft ball!

Well done to all the girls and boys. They were so well behaved during this messy task! I hope you enjoy going it a try at home. Remember to keep it in the fridge when not using it.

To finish off this weeks blog I want to introduce you to this lovely book we've been reading, 'Silly Billy'. While most of the time our little ones are super happy they do at times have their little worries that to them can seem very big. So did Billy until his clever grandma gave him some little worry dolls who he could share his troubles with before bedtime and then place them under his pillow while he slept. Billy was sleeping like a log in no time!! After experimenting with some sample dolls myself, I now have a very long order list... it seems like they all have worries now!! lol

Happy Weekend,

Ms. Murray

This week is the final week of our fire station topic. We intergraded our fire drills into our PE lesson... crawling under the smoke to get out. It seemed such a shame to wake them all up!!

Exercise is important to keep our bodies strong and healthy. You can beat some good old laps of the yard.

I thought I would share a random pick of some of the copy work we have been doing this week. There is lots of syllable recognition work which will prepare the children for their reading.
We have been practicing the formation of the number 2 this week.
This week to finish off learning about our body, we practiced figure drawing. We made sure to include all parts of the body and think about where they should go on our body. (No hands and feet coming out of our heads!! lol)

Defiantly some budding Picassos in our class!

Last week we painted our pasta shells. The week we put them into patterns and threaded them onto string to decorate our classroom.
In maths we have also been learning how to put objects into a sets according to colour or size. The children should be able to identify thing that belong in a set and what doesn't belong.
To finish off this week's blog... a few snaps from aistear play. Well done to all the boys and girls. You would be so proud of how hard they work and enthusiastic they are. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

This week saw the start of our new topic 'Autumn'. The children got off to a great start on our nature walk around the school grounds to collect all thing autumnal for our aistear play.

What better way to learn than to explore our own wonderful grounds. There are bird feeders, insect hotels and massive sunflower heads that show hundreds of sunflower seeds... a birds' paradise!

We had great fun collecting lots of natural bits for our classroom. Thank you to everyone who brought in beautiful leaves and conkers for our autumn collection.

The making of this months small world!
In the Junk art area the children helped to make trees for the small world. Here they are painting the tree trunks.

Next they suck on some little autumnal coloured leaves.

We used the whole punch to make some nice mini leaves for the trees and also to pour into our small world so the mini people can rake them up again!

In the soil area the children went digging for the hidden conkers... the winner finds the most. They have to count them first!

In the water area... we get to learn about floating and sinking by making some boats from the conker husks.

Fire Safety Week

This week is fire safety week. We have been learning all about the fire station and how fire women and men keep us safe. We have learnt about fire engines and how how the fire people train and put out fires. Next week we will be practicing our own fire procedure in school. Above you can see our work in progress... our burning building for the role-play area.

The video below will give you a giggle but it has an important message for the children about what to do should their clothes ever catch fire...

STOP, DROP AND ROLL!!

Finally... we do occasionally have a bit of relaxing wind down time in room 5! We finished off our week with some pasta painting... using our Autumnal colours we have been learning since the start of school. Next week we will be making pasta patterned necklaces.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
