CATS AND DOMINOES
Maths: problem-solving

Hi girls and boys,
Check out the fun 'Cats and Domino' video. It demonstrates interesting ways to solve problems. Try to answer the below questions after you have watched the video. You can answer the questions orally and/or write them.

**************************************************************************
1. There are a lot of dominoes used! Can you guess/estimate how many were used in the entire video? How many colours can you see?
2. What does the first cat do to move the dominoes?
3. How many cats are there? Describe them.
4. What are the cats sitting on?
5. How are the dominoes knocked from under the whiteboard?
6. Count the pink, green, orange, white and blue magnets on the whiteboard.
7. What happens when the cat licks the white plate?
8. How many dominoes are on the cardboard box and what is inside it?
9. Were there any toys or musical instruments used to help knock the dominoes?
10. How were the bells and balls used?
11. Can you find any shapes?
12. Were the cats happy in the end?!

Hi Kim,

Yes it is good news- will give me a chance to view some of the children's work in a secure way.

Best wishes to all the family and hello back at Kai!

Hi ms Dolan
It's Ava, I hope you had a nice easter. I miss you and all room 8.

Hi Ms Dolan, Ava wanted to say hello to you and all her class, I hope you all had a lovely easter.
Ava really enjoyed the cat and Dominos maths today. I'm going to focus on her letter formation this week. She learned cursive in junior but has been writing her letters normal lately so I just want to know which I should be doing with her to improve her writing. Also we had a look at the Big cat readers and Ava read one about visiting the zoo. Can you suggest what level (color) that I should be doing with her please.
Thanks
Jamie (Ava's mam)

Hi Jamie and Ava!

I miss you too Ava and all the students in Room.8. Hopefully you will get to see your classmates in the near future.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the cat and domino problem-solving. It's a great video!

Jamie, I added a blog post after your message, regarding cursive writing and reading levels. Hope it helps and please let me know if you have any further questions.
Ava is a capable reader, so anything from Yellow/Band 3 onwards. You can judge by guidelines set out in my post. It sometimes takes a few books to ascertain children's levels in school.

All the best,
Ms. Dolan

Hiya boys and girls in room 8,I hope you’re all well and had a lovely Easter. I’m sure the Easter bunny came to you all and I doubt there is any chocolate left at this stage. I hope you’re all keeping up with your school work and most important your exercise out in the sunshine
I’m keeping busy out in my garden mowing the grass and keeping the srubs in order. Kodi has been a bit naughty, guess what he did boys and girls,he dug two giant holes in the garden and sits in them so I cant find him!!
Anyway be good for your mums and Dads and stay safe best wishes Nicola

Hello Ms Dolan,
Jack says hi to all in room 8 and hopes you’re all keeping safe and well!
He’s keeping busy completing his activities and also enjoys P.E with Joe Wicks each morning. He’s been a great help to his grandparents especially with the gardening.
Thank you for the continued support!
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for your message. Hello to Jack and tell him that he is super for helping out his grandparents.
He is very wise to keep up the exercise too.

Bye for now!
