It's the first day of May so hello to the new season of summer! As you know, it is also the name of one of your lovely classmates. Summer was born in June and there are three months in this season.....May, June and July.
My favourite seasons are spring and summer. Which are yours? Try writing some sentences in cursive/print about it. Look at the following example:
My favourite seasons are spring and summer. The weather is getting better and the evenings are longer. I see lots of birds, animals and flowers.

When I lived in Australia, it felt like summer weather for most of the year! Living in London felt like that sometimes too! My brother and uncles live in Australia and it is actually autumn there now, because they live in the Southern Hemisphere.

Do you remember learning about penguins earlier in the year, who mostly live in the Southern Hemisphere? We live in the Northern Hemisphere, so our seasons are the opposite to Australia.
I know that some of your families are living in different parts of the world too.
Can you find somewhere close to those parts on the below map? This is more about finding the continent and discussing the meanings of some of the different symbols.
Can you figure out which area/countries are near the red flowers on the map?

It's nice that we can keep in contact with friends and family around the world so easily thanks to the internet and phones. Years ago, my granny would have waited weeks or months for a letter to arrive from Australia from her sons! It was the only way that she could keep in contact..... imagine that! Did you write on the free postcard from An Post? You could send it to your grandparents or to someone you are missing in Ireland. Great practice for tricky words!

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and I'll be back here on Tuesday.

The Calendar

As you know, we practise the calendar every morning in school. Parents, please encourage full sentence answers when possible. Typical questions asked by me are:
Which day is today? What day comes before/after that day?
What is the month/year?
What is the full date today ? (The date is May 1st, 2020.)
Which season is it?
What is the weather like today?
When does the weekend start?
How many days are in a week/this month?
How many months are in a year?
Can you name the months of the year (This is more challenging in Senior Infants)?
Keep up practice of an aimsir from blog post March 27th.

Here is the month of May to help you.....

Below are some worksheets on time and length which can be completed without a printer. See April 26th post for more on length. It is not necessary to use the exact equipment suggested in non-standard units worksheets. Use whatever is available!

Dia daoibh agus fáilte go Bua na Cainte!
(Hello and welcome to Bua na Cainte!)
Parents, Edco have recently allowed home access to Bua na Cainte. This is only possible on a laptop/PC. You will need a fast internet connection as it is a large file. Otherwise you can watch segments of it here instead. The videos take a long time to upload here too, so bear with me! Video speech starts around 00:27, after demonstrating how to access topic of Sa Bhaile (The home).
