Thank you so much to all the grown-ups who brought such an amazing array of autumn resources. Having such a large selection of leaves, chestnuts, pine cones, acorns etc to work with allowed me to bring our Autumn topic into every part of your child's learning. So a big thank you to everyone. We made setsWe made patternsScroll through the pictures to take a look at the creative ways we worked with our autumn resources.ArtWe thought about how we could make an autumn picture with our collection. MathsMore hedgehog counting activities Matching the objects with their partner. Early Writing SkillsWe practiced our autumn mark making in this fun dice game. Leaf RubbingsLearning about the different textures of leaves. The rough side makes a perfect surface for rubbings. AistearDuring Aistear time the children get to bring everything they have learnt over the week and incorporate it into their play in their own way! Anything goes... Just bringing the pumpkins babies for a walk! Self PortraitsThe children were so thrilled with how their self portraits turned out. I can't believe how well some of them captured their own likeness. What a good job they all did! Hope you enjoy the blog this week. Thanks again for all your support resourcing our learning. Next week will be all about the fire station. I am fully stocked for junk art and tins now so I don't need anymore for now, thank you.
Kind Regards, Ms Murray

Fall into Autumn in Rm 5!
Wow! Look at these wonderful leaves! Thank you to everyone who brought in leaves for our class this week and we got some fabulous conkers and pinecones too. With your support we can make our learning so much fun and far more visually stimulating for the children. Way more interesting seeing things in real life than just looking at them in a book! Keep them coming :)
Nature Walk
What better way to start learning about the seasons and autumn than to take a trip out of the classroom and head on a nature walk! We collected some leaves and twigs and helicopters to add to our Aistear play stations.
Maths
We continue to learn about patterns all around us and here we are making some random patterns. We had great fun! Scroll through the photos below to see your little ones!
We have also been learning about sets and how to group objects that belong together. We talk about why they belong together.
DEAR Time
Reading time have never been soooo inviting! Thank you to our wonderful caretaker Tom who is always more than obliging to help us by sawing our plastic lid in half to create a table for each box. Let's hope the children don't grow too much lol!
Aistear
So we have been setting up our new Aistear stations this week and the children have been full of wonderful ideas. I sent a note home on Friday about resources we will need over the next topic but please, don't feel under any pressure and a few leaves will completely suffice!
The Hibernation Station makes the perfect little snug for reading and play. Full of all the colours of autumn.
Our Autumn Woodland is perfect for going on a nature hunt!
Our furry little autumn friends are perfect for encouraging the children to use their topical language. On Monday I will be sending the children home with a list of topical language, it would be greatly beneficial to their learning if you could practice vocabulary with your child.
Conker Hunt - We bring maths into our Aistear by searching for conkers, we count our set and the winner is the person who has collected the most. Who said maths wasn't FUN!
Play doh is always a favourite with the children.
Thanks for reading this weeks blog. I hope you all enjoy your nature walks over the weekend!
Kind Regards, Ms Murray This week saw the start of our new topic 'Autumn'. The children got off to a great start on our nature walk around the school grounds to collect all thing autumnal for our aistear play. What better way to learn than to explore our own wonderful grounds. There are bird feeders, insect hotels and massive sunflower heads that show hundreds of sunflower seeds... a birds' paradise! We had great fun collecting lots of natural bits for our classroom. Thank you to everyone who brought in beautiful leaves and conkers for our autumn collection.
In the Junk art area the children helped to make trees for the small world. Here they are painting the tree trunks.
Next they suck on some little autumnal coloured leaves.
We used the whole punch to make some nice mini leaves for the trees and also to pour into our small world so the mini people can rake them up again! In the soil area the children went digging for the hidden conkers... the winner finds the most. They have to count them first!
In the water area... we get to learn about floating and sinking by making some boats from the conker husks.
Fire Safety Week
This week is fire safety week. We have been learning all about the fire station and how fire women and men keep us safe. We have learnt about fire engines and how how the fire people train and put out fires. Next week we will be practicing our own fire procedure in school. Above you can see our work in progress... our burning building for the role-play area.
The video below will give you a giggle but it has an important message for the children about what to do should their clothes ever catch fire... STOP, DROP AND ROLL!! IMG_3182 from Zara Murray on Vimeo. Finally... we do occasionally have a bit of relaxing wind down time in room 5! We finished off our week with some pasta painting... using our Autumnal colours we have been learning since the start of school. Next week we will be making pasta patterned necklaces.
