As instructed by Winnie we made a pumpkin patch and coloured the magic seeds...
We sprinkled the seeds around the pumpkin patch and waited to see what would happen happen next....
When we arrived to school the next morning the excitement was mighty when it was revealed to us that our seeds had grown into the most fascinating selection of magic pumpkins!

Rm 6 knows the importance of using the playground equipment properly to keep us safe... so we decided to make a video for the other girls and boy to watch to remind them too. Especially children who are new to our school! Check out the video we made...

Learning About Money!Exploring AutumnParents came to visit for Halloween Story Time!Creative WorkSuper Homework!
I hope everyone has had a fun and eventful Halloween break. Thanks for all your support with the homework again. It is such an important part of your child's learning and makes a big difference in their progress. Particulary with the reading. The readers went home today. Please let me know if you are having any difficulty with them as I am more than happy to support you in any way I can. Once your child has read the readers twice please record the name of the reader and sign the tracker form. They can let me know they are ready for a new reader.
Kind Regards, Ms. Murray Aistear Fun!
During the busy school day the children work hard learning lots of new things about the world around them. During the Aistear hour they get to explore this new learning on their own terms with their friends.
All About Apples!
We have spent the week learning about apples. You wouldn't believe how many different ways you can learn about apples!!

In Rm 6 we take our learning very seriously (most of the time ?) Now that the girls and boys are in Senior Infants they are expected to take more ownership over their learning. The children are encouraged to become more independent and take responsibility for how they work best. Flexibile seating not only encourages the children to make decisions that are best for them it also allows children the comfort they need to perform to the best of their ability. Flexible seating has a strict set of rules but the children are managing great with this new arrangement.

Mindfulness and self care is top of our list in Rm6!
Homework
Thank you to all the parents who have taken the time to sit down each night with your child to do 10-15 minutes homework. I am trying to encourage the children to take the time needed to complete their small piece of written work with care. I encourage them to present work that they would be proud to share on our class blog. Please try and make sure they have some colours to complete their written activity and most importantly, adult supervision. Please check that the activity is completed correctly. At some stage over the week I try to give each child some time to assess the work in their sounds book and so they can share their progress with me. Here is some lovely homework completed this week. Well done girls and boys.
Helicopter Stories
We encourage the development of creative writing by practicing our story acting. We call this activity Helicopter Stories because we allow our imagination to take us anywhere!
Proud Little Workers
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please check back every fortnight to see what we are getting up to in class. The time you spend showing interest in your child's learning greatly encourages them to participate in class activities and do their best. You will see on their homework sheet for this week that they have a blog task to complete. I look forward to reading your child's contribution in the comment section of this post.
Kind Regards, Ms Murray Phonics & Writing PracticeWe been working really hard revising all our letters. Each day we focus on one letter, learning it’s name, the sound it makes and how to write it. Well done to all the grown-up and children for all the extra practice you’ve been doing at home. Every little bit help to make your child more fluent and confident with their reading and writing. Procedure WritingOur focus writing genre over the next few months is Procedure Writing. We learnt that certain types of writing helps us understand how to do something new. Together we wrote a piece of procedural writing about how to wash a baby. We learnt lots about bossy verbs and sequencing words. We were then able to bring what we have learnt into our play during Aistear. We also practice following some more procedure during our play at the mark making station. We little help from me the children had to work together to figure out how to make the pterodactyl. It took a lot of persistence and repeated attempts but they finally got there! I just wanted to take a chance to say thanks you to the parents for being so patient at home time while I make sure you child is safely handed over. Have a great weekend everyone.
Kind Regards, Ms Murray Drop Everything And Read! Can you guess how we were sorting ourselves?Principal’s AwardLearning About Pattern!Trip to the Botanic Gardens!Homework
I Hope everyone if managing ok with the homework. Reading with your child is the most valuable support you can give them to enable them to learn. Every child needs some quiet, focused one-one practice with their reading and writing, something that they can’t get in a busy classroom. Your support is particularly needed if your child is struggling with their phonics and reading. I am here to support any parent who might be unsure of how to practice phonics and blending with their child. I am more than happy to sit down with you and your child for a few minutes after school if you feel it would help to watch me practicing sound/blending with your child. You can also visit the ‘help with phonics’ page of our website for further support. Over the week I will go over their homework they have been doing at home. I will keep their folder in their bags at all times (including weekends) so that it’s there if you find yourself with some quiet time.
