Hello everybody in Room 10 and welcome back to the third term of school. We are unfortunately still doing school from home but that’s ok. I hope you all had a nice break, got to relax a bit and enjoy the nice weather. You might notice a few changes to our daily blog but I will explain them as we go. I’m very happy to be back to work, while I had a lovely break doing very little 😄 I missed you all!😊 Daily Dictation This is the first change, we are going back to our daily dictation. Here I will call out 5 words based on our phonic sounds and then 1 sentence using some key tricky words. Parents as you all know the children in Room 10 have been doing great work at dictation in class so they should be well able to do this. There are two ways you can do this, print out the page provided and this will have all the days on it or use a blank page and number it, you can then press play and I will call out the words (pause any time you need more time) or parents you can call out the words from the answer page I’ve provided. ![]()

Parents, for the sentence writing there is some focused work on Tricky Words, below you will find a document containing flash cards of all the TW in case you have lost your set from the Homework Folders. You may place the focus TW on the table so the children can spell these and sound out the rest of the sentence. This gives them a chance to practise writing the TW a couple of times and help them spell it. ![]()
HandwritingThe next new thing will be a daily handwriting letter, this is to finish off the Capital Letters we have been learning. I have made a booklet for the children based off the books we have in school, again though feel free to do this on a blank page if you do not have access to a printer. ☺️ Today’s letter is nice and easy, the letter O. Please see the video below on how to form the letter O. ![]()
ReadersAs we have not been in school the children have not been getting readers, so this release from Folens is brilliant. They have released ebooks and interactive books for all their big cat readers. How to sign in for these is in the picture below and you can pick the coloured level your child is able for. Story TimeAs I will explain in the video tomorrow story time has also had a bit of a change, we are now starting work on some novels by one of my favourite authors Roald Dahl. Now I know a lot of children may have already read them but that’s doesn’t matter (I’ve read them loads too😁). This means on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I will be reading chapters from our first novel George’s Marvellous Medicine. Then on Friday I will read a picture book like before. I hope you enjoy 😁 MathsToday’s maths is pure revision to get us all back into the school routine. Try as many as you can or want to do below.
Today I would like you to just play the story for the children a few times and see can they from the pictures retell it in English. We will be looking at this story in detail on Tuesday so don’t worry about any words they do not know. 😄 the story is called "An Lacha Ghránna" which means The Ugly Duckling.

Hi Georgina, thanks so much for the comment, yes I agree it was very tough to get started with work yesterday morning. I went for a walk first to try and wake myself up! ☺️ I had a lovely Easter even though it was rather quiet. I hope you have a nice break too!

Dia Dhuit Ms Mc Carthy and welcome back. Welcome back boys and girls. I jave a little challenge for you. Please find the big, old fashioned microphone on the website. " The Children Say"... Now can you turn off everything noisy- ask politely. Listen to Charlotte from R17 with her Mammy. She has a message for all the girls and boys in OLV. Enjoy doing your best at home. Ms McDonnell
