This month our new topic is The Home. We will be learning about different types of houses in our locality and also furniture and rooms in our homes. Our role-play area will be turned into a home so if you have any old toys you would like to donate from the list below we would be grateful.

Kitchen toys
Baby/doll toys and clothes
Junk Art recyclables
I'm looking for a lamp or light for the home area (it's a little dark with the new roof  on)

Thanks.

Different Homes

As part of our new topic we have been learning about different homes using language like mobile home, terrace houses, semi- detached, detached, flats, apartments, cottage etc. We have discussed how different houses have multi stories, garages attached and different types of room inside them. It would be great if you could have a chat about your own home with your child. It will support their language when sharing with their peers in class.

As an Aistear project the children were asked to design their own home in their Aistear copies while thinking about the different building materials we have available to us around the classroom. Below was some of the materials on offer but they are free to use whatever the like from around the room. Our Focus Fairy tale, The Three Little Pigs was an inspiration for some.

Tuesday's Challenge: who can design and build a home?

After discussing basic structure of buildings and what makes a tall building stable, we went to visit an art project I completed with my class last year. The children were impressed with how tall the structure is!

Writing

The children are working really hard in their 'Best Writing' copies. However, the focus now is to apply the correct letter formation in all their writing, throughout the day at home and in school. If you see that your child is not forming their letters correctly when writing their name or on their homework, it would be helpful if you gently corrected them. Perhaps ask them to write a row using correct formation at the bottom of the page. This will really help them on the road to becoming skilled writers!

Shadow Drawings

We took advantage of the fine weather to do a little outdoor art. We looked at our own shadows and discussed how they are formed. Next we practised drawing our wild animal figures by tracing their shadows onto paper. Check back next week to see our final pieces of art work!

This is a lovely photo of the class after we received our medals for full attendance! Well Done Boys and Girls!

Have a lovely weekend,

Kind Regards,
