Hard to believe that we've reached the end of the first month in school already! How time flies and how fast these wonderful children are learning! I have to say, we have all bonded so well together and I am feeling very attached to your little ones already! They are a credit to wonderful their grown-ups.

Colour Mixing Project - Red & Yellow make... Orange

We can Listen and follow instructions

Learning to be good listeners to become good good learners is the big focus in September... I'm delighted to say we have that one sorted. Well done girls and boys!

D.E.A.R. TIME

Picture
We try to do DEAR time every day. If there was one gift I could give to a child it would be to imbed in them a passion for books. This week I collected a selection of great books relating to this months topic, Myself & My Family. The lovely Maria in Ballymun Library is always so helpful in sourcing topical books for my class. Thank you Maria!

And who doesn't like to find somewhere snug to read a book!

Art Appreciation week - Self Portraits

This week we finished up our Myself topic with an integrated learning project on Self portraits! The children have observed and discussed various self-portraits by famous artists and not so famous artists.

We discussed our favourite and least favourite. What was the same about them and what was different.

We went on a walk about to look at self portraits another teacher did. And then we observed Room 2 lovely portraits.

One clever girl made a connection between an illustration in the book she was reading and the Picasso painting. Can you see it?

I hope you enjoy this little video we made to work on our language skills. I think the children speak very clearly! Well Done Girls and Boys.

Aistear

We finish up our Aistear topic for this month. But the main focus behind the children's first introduction to Aistear was about making friends and building the skills we need to play successfully. And they all did a really great job!

I want to tank you Ms Murray for Dean's improvement of holding the pen 😊I was teaching him how to hold his pen right way all summer, and didn't work😣He just didn't want to listen me 🤔We do extra work at home to improve his handwriting and it looks much better than it was month ago very glad 😁Thank you

That's so lovely to hear! Funny how it works. I think watching their peers do it also helps. I'm glad to hear he seems to have got it but well done to you for trying. Keep up the writing practice. It will greatly improve his skills. Lots of colouring in is this at this stage. :)

Thank you for another great blog, Ms Murray..Maci has learnt and enjoyed so much over the last month.. She really enjoys going to school. It's been a while since I heard the sayings "teacher says" and "that's not the way teacher does it".. You obviously are already having a big influence in her life.. Maci has asked me to write "I love when you decide to do fun activities"..

Maci did a amazing job with the maracas, I actually thought she had got it as a gift. I couldn't believe she made it. We went to collect her brother from playschool after school on Friday and two of her playschool teachers want to do them with their class now. She was delighted hearing this and giving them the instructions on how to do it..

That's so cute. She came up to me shaking the two big shells which contained a little shell. So I helped her stick them together and she ask could she put a sticker on it and choose the one she wanted. We will be covering 'Sound' topic in November so I said the same to Maci that we will get everyone to make one then. hah... Now I have to get shell collecting, lucky I live beside the beach!
