This week we learned about where pumpkins come from and what happens to them on their journey!
Then we made some pumpkins ourselves! Lots of us liked making them scary as you will see!..

Phonological Awareness - Syllables!

19/10/2020

Syllables - just part of the phonological awareness the children engage in to help them be ready for Phonics in the coming weeks! They also love finding the syllables in their names so why not do the names in your families - you can clap, stamp, jump them out!

The children have to use their sense of touch to feel each surface using words like rough, smooth, spongy, prickly etc and match it to its partner!

DEAR time - Drop Everything And Read!!

Or in our case, look at the pictures!
HOWEVER, don’t underestimate the power of letting the children use books.
  • Turning the page (Pinching)
  • Page numbers
  • Left to right orientation
  • Oral language is 🔑 - talk about the pictures!
  • Story is made from sentences, sentences from words. (Point as you are reading)

All of these things are so valuable to a child before we begin to read later in the year!
